It was another highly successful weekend for the T3 Racing trio at the fast Silverstone circuit as British Supersport EVO Champion Alex Olsen doubled up on race wins and Superstock 600 rider Aleix Aulestia secured his debut podium in the class. Luke Jones had a mixed weekend but brought the bike home with two top ten rides in the ultra competitive full Supersport class.
A bright and sunny opening Free Practice session saw Supersport duo Luke Jones and Alex Olsen finish 12th and 14th respectively, separated by less than 0.1s. Improving considerably for the second session, Luke improved his time to finish the day in fifth while Alex once again ended as top EVO machine.
Having first ridden the Silverstone circuit last year as part of the Triumph Triple Challenge, Pirelli National Superstock 600 rider Aleix Aulestia spent the opening Free Practice reacquainting himself with the track and upped the pace to finish qualifying in seventh place.
With heavy rain on Saturday morning causing lengthy delays, Alex Olsen rode at a blistering pace in the wet conditions to qualify in fifth place for the opening Supersport race, with Jones unfortunately back in 13th following a small mistake which saw him lose the front.
With the rain abating, the first Supersport race was held on a damp but drying track. With lap times tumbling throughout the nine lap race, Acumens T3 Racing’s Luke Jones rode a fantastic race to pick up riders one by one – taking sixth place at the chequered flag. Unable to match the pace of the full Supersport machines in the dry, Alex was still able to secure his second top ten finish of the year in ninth, taking an incredible 13th EVO victory of the year.
With vastly improved weather gracing the Silverstone circuit on the main race day and starting from tenth on the grid for the second Supersport race, Luke Jones took a steady start to run in a battle for the top ten. Eventually able to cross the line in ninth place. Alex secured twelfth place overall and once again top EVO machine.
In the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship race, Aleix rode his best race of the year to take his debut podium. Working his way through the pack, Aleix picked off the riders one by one, claiming third place on the final lap.
Speaking after the weekend, Luke Jones said “This was certainly one of the toughest weekends we’ve had all year. I don’t feel we truly showed what I or the team are capable of and we’ve lost a bit of ground to fifth place in the Championship. We’ve got one more round to go though and Brands is a track I love so I’m hopeful we can turn it around and see what we can do.”
Following another double victory, Alex Olsen said, “To get another two victories in the EVO class in incredible, we’ve all worked so well together this year and riding the T3 Racing Triumph is a complete pleasure. What I’m most pleased about though is getting another top ten in the main class, it’s something I try to do every race and is great motivation to do that again at Brands!”
After claiming his first podium, Aleix Aulestia said, “It has been my aim to make the podium of a National BSB Championship race and I managed to do that. It’s a dream come true! The bike has been working fantastically all weekend so I’ll be looking to go even higher at Brands.”
