Rob Guiver came first in the Cup class and 15th overall in yesterday’s (Saturday 10th August 2013) British Supersport championship sprint race for the Ace Cafe T3 Racing team.
After some adjustments were made to the Ace Cafe Racer’s gearing and front forks Guiver was much happier with the bike and qualified 14th on the grid. His main concern was his struggle with arm pump over the weekend, which had made braking difficult in free practice and qualifying.
Despite dropping back to 18th off the line, Guiver was able to get himself up to 17th by lap five and he continued to put in faster and faster lap times.
From then he continued to climb and on lap seven overtook Bjorn Estment, moving up into 15th and making him the top Cup class rider on track.
The gap between Guiver and Hipwell was over three seconds as he crossed the start-line into lap eight. It would be a tough task for any rider to make up that gap with only two laps left but Guiver managed to get a second closer to his opponent before the end of the race putting in his fastest lap of the weekend so far (1:40.179).
Team Principal, Tony Scott, also accepted the team trophy and told us:
“Whilst this was our second win, this was a more meaningful win, in that Rob was really comfortable with the bike and we earned that win in a proper race. That’s what really counts because it helps build Rob’s confidence and we can keep moving forward.”
Team manager, Ricky Chadwick, was thrilled with the result and said to us after the race:
“We’re so pleased with that result, the changes we made have obviously made a difference and we know we’re heading in the right direction.
“We’re just looking forward to the big race tomorrow now and aiming to get a better start. The problem is everyone is so quick off the line in this class, so if you mess it up you get punished and we were punished today! But the lap times were good and if he’d got away we would have been top 12 without question.”
The Ace Cafe T3 Racing team will be racing again today at 15.50. Find us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/T3Racing) or follow @T3Racing on twitter for more race updates.
